Under WHS Legislation workplaces have an obligation to have staff trained to provide appropriate first aid in an either an emergency situation or for minor injuries. Staff need to know how to use the first aid equipment and supplies provided in the workplace

This unit incorporates the content of units:

  • HLTAID009 – Provide CPR
  • HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

Objective To equip participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical application to competently administer emergency first aid, as well as the treatment of other illnesses and injuries in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

Assessment Provide First Aid has both practical and theoretical elements, where participants demonstrate procedures of techniques used and exhibit the necessary knowledge on administering First Aid in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and the Health Training Package. Alternative assessments can be made (eg. Oral).

This course can be conducted in one of two ways at the discretion of the client:

  • A 6 hour course or
  • A short course covering all practical components with online component.

The ARC recommends HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid be renewed three years from the completion date. ARC recommends unit HLTAID009 – Provide CPR be renewed every 12 months.
